A modern log cabin on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi: Where simplicity meets coziness

At the Nyman family’s vacation home in Tampere, words fail to do it justice. Perched on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi, Villa Teri is a stunning example of how modern architecture and traditional log construction blend seamlessly into an evocative whole. Where to begin when discussing one of the most beautiful homes in Finland?

Annemari and Sami Nyman’s log cabin vacation home in Tampere is an absolutely stunning blend of modern simplicity and warm coziness. Although the family’s home is located in Vuores, Tampere, they are just a half-hour drive away from complete tranquility.

The perfect plot of land and a reliable partner

This magnificent project began with a lakeside lot sheltered by the forest that Sami discovered. The view of Lake Näsijärvi couldn’t be more spectacular: the lake stretches for miles between the islands, and the property boasts a private shoreline of no less than 250 meters. Planning for the construction project began immediately after the plot was purchased. “Dealing with Ollikainen for the logs felt safe. Their references are impressive and the quality is top-notch,” the family notes.

Architecture: Modern design and light

The design of the villa was based on clean lines:

  • A pitched roof gives the building a modern look.

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows bring nature and the lake view into the interior.

  • Spacious terrace areas on two sides of the building, along with a rooftop terrace, maximize the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

The 119-square-meter living area features three bedrooms, a spacious and high-ceilinged living room, and a spacious loft that serves as guest quarters. The property is completed by a fully renovated sauna building located on the shore, where a floor-to-ceiling window in the steam room invites you to admire Lake Näsijärvi.

Interior Design: Bold Choices and Cozy Warmth

While Sami was in charge of overseeing the construction project, Annemari confidently handled the interior design. Annemari, a professional interior designer, has left her mark on the home with a cozy atmosphere created by bold contrasts. The white-painted drywall surfaces and ceiling blend seamlessly with large glass panels. Carefully selected brown-painted log surfaces add warmth to the space.

Modern and sleek choices, such as Grado Design’s open staircase with glass railings, large 120x120 cm floor tiles, and a black, handle-less kitchen, give the space a sense of elegance. Details, such as the Long John Pendant Lamp with its leather cord—ordered from the Swedish online store rubn.com—complete the look.

All in one go – right down to the yard

The Nyman project differs from many others in that it was completed in its entirety in a single phase. When the cottage was ready for use, the terrace railings were in place, the building was painted in Tikkurila’s Korppi shade, and the firewood was neatly stacked. Even the small artificial turf field built for the children’s play next to the playhouse was immediately ready for use.

This property is a perfect example of how high-quality log construction, careful planning, and attention to detail come together to create a vacation home that’s comfortable to live in all year round.
