Unlike lightweight timber houses, such as log houses or CLT structures, a log house is built from solid wood - a single natural material that acts as a load-bearing structure as well as the interior and exterior. Whereas log construction needs separate insulation, vapour barriers and internal cladding, logs naturally breathe, regulate humidity and even out temperature fluctuations without mechanical assistance. CLT structures often require additional insulation and lose some of the wood's breathability, while solid logs offer the benefits of a real timber house as such.
